How Windows 11 Clear Space – Guide
Running out of disk space is a common problem, no matter the era. From the days of DOS when everything was stored on floppy disks to now, when music libraries can fill up an entire drive, users often find themselves with insufficient storage. To avoid this issue, it’s important to configure your system accordingly.
Free up space on your system by deleting the largest files. Our guide will help you identify and delete them. Let’s get started.
Method 1: clean Up Unwanted files through Windows settings
To quickly access the Storage settings in Windows 11, press the keyboard shortcut “Win + I” to open the Settings app, then navigate to System > Storage.
Users can access their Temporary files by clicking the corresponding button.
Your Windows 11 computer will take a minute to process all the files, after which it will display those you can delete to free up disk space. We recommend unchecking “Downloads” as it may contain important files.
To free up disk space, search for and select “Previous Windows Installation” and “Windows Update Clean-up” in the Disk Cleanup utility.
Clicking the “Remove files” button on Windows 10 will free up a large amount of storage space on your PC.
Method 2: Use the built-in cleaning manager
Press the keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” to open the Run window, then type “cleanmgr” and hit Enter to launch the Disk Cleanup utility.
After upgrading to Windows 11, the Disk Clean-up utility will scan your PC for temporary files taking up disk space. To begin, select drive “C” and click “OK” in the pop-up window.
To free up space on your computer, click “Clear up system files” in the next window that appears. Select drive “C” and press Enter to get the same pop-up as before.
To free up disk space, select “Previous Windows Installation” and “Windows Update Clean-up” options in the Disk Cleanup utility, then click “OK”. Additional options can be selected if desired.
After taking the necessary steps to free up disk space on their Windows 11 PC, users should be aware that reverting back to Windows 10 will require manual installation from a USB drive.
