How to Upload Music to Spotify on PC and Phone – Guide

Spotify, the world’s top music streaming service, provides major independent labels and artists with a platform to promote their music. Users can listen for free with audio ads between tracks, or pay a subscription fee to remove ads and access additional features such as offline listening. Regardless of the chosen model, artists will earn money when their music is streamed.

Unfortunately, independent artists and labels are unable to directly partner with Spotify. However, a new service is available that can help them distribute their music library across all streaming platforms quickly and easily, without any setup or annual fees or paperwork.

How to upload music to Spotify from your desktop

Uploading your own music to Spotify is easy – just use the desktop app for Windows or macOS. Here’s how.

Log into your Spotify account on your Windows PC or Mac, click the menu button next to your name, and select Settings in the desktop app.

To access local files, navigate to the Settings screen and enable the “Show Local Files” option.

Choose which folders on your computer to import music from. Spotify defaults to the downloads and “Music Library” folders, but audio files must be in MP3 format.

Users can easily add audio files to Spotify from other folders by clicking the “Add a Source” button, selecting the desired folder, and confirming.

Explore and play tracks stored on your computer in the Spotify desktop app by clicking “Your Library” in the left menu to access the new Local Files section.

How to upload music to Spotify on your mobile device

Spotify Premium subscribers can access music stored on their computer through the Spotify app on Android and iOS devices. To do so, users must first create a playlist of the tracks they want to listen to.

Make a playlist in the Spotify desktop app: just click “Create Playlist” and give it a name.

Add tracks to your new playlist by dragging and dropping them from the Local Files folder in your library.

To access Spotify on your computer, open the app on your phone or tablet and ensure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

To access local audio files on an iPhone or iPad, users must tap Home, then Settings gear icon and select Local Files. Activating the “Local audio files” option will prompt Spotify to find devices on the network. Android users do not need to take this step.

Check your library’s Playlists section to find your new playlist.

Tap the Download button below the playlist title to import songs from your computer to the Spotify mobile app.

You can now access your locally stored music on your phone or tablet through Spotify, just like any other track.

To access imported music without an internet connection, enable “Offline Mode” in the Settings gear icon on the Home page.
