How To Set iTunes as the Default Music Player – Guide

Windows users have been missing out on a better music experience - Groove Music. Formerly known as Xbox Music Player, Microsoft bought the rights to the name and made it their default music player for Windows 10 and Win10.1. It’s a great way to listen to your favorite tunes!

If you’ve already invested in Apple Music, you can use iTunes for Windows on your computer. To make it the default music player for .MP3 and .WMA files, you need to change the default settings.

To access the program defaults on Windows XP or Vista, open the “Start” menu and select either “Set program access and defaults” (XP) or “Default Programs” (Vista).

To set a non-Microsoft program as the default on Windows XP or Vista, open the Add or Remove Programs window in XP, or the Default Programs window in Vista, and select the desired program.

To set iTunes as the default media player on Windows XP and Vista, select it from the drop-down list in the “Media Player” section. On Vista, click “Set this program as default” after selecting iTunes.

Confirming the “OK” prompt will make iTunes your go-to music player.
