How To Reverse Image Search On an iPhone – Guide
Want to know the origin of an image? A reverse image search is the answer. It’s easy to do from a desktop computer - just head to images.google.com and upload the photo you need more information on.
Users of iOS devices can perform a reverse image search by using certain programs or apps. Here are two or three methods to help you do this on an iPhone.
Using the Google Chrome app
Using Google Chrome, iPhone and iPad users can quickly and easily perform a reverse image lookup. Downloading the app is all that’s needed to get started.
Save the image you want to reverse search in the Photos app. If it’s online or in your email, make sure to save it there.
To save an image to the Photos app, select it and press the Share icon, then choose Copy Photo from the menu.
Tap the Chrome app to open it, then double-tap the search bar. A prompt will appear, asking you to “Search for copied image”. Select it.
Google will show you the most relevant image results first, and continue to search for more options further down the page.
Searching Google directly from the browser
You don’t need to use Safari to perform a reverse image search - Firefox, Edge and Brave are all compatible.
Navigate to Google Images on your phone’s browser.
To access the desktop version of a website on Safari, tap “aA” in the upper left corner of the window or the left corner of the address bar and select “Request Desktop Site” from the drop-down menu.
Tap the camera icon on the right side of Safari’s search bar to open a new window and select “Upload an image”.
Tap “Choose file” and select a photo from your Photo Library, take a photo to upload instantly, or browse the “Files” app.
Users can quickly find the most relevant results for their search by selecting a photo and waiting for the results to appear; the most pertinent results will be displayed first, followed by those that are less closely related.
Using Tineye or Yandex
Google may be the go-to for many when it comes to reverse image searches, but there are other options available. Tinyeye and Yandex both offer similar services.
Discover Tinyeye, a reverse image search tool that simplifies the process of finding images online.
To use Tinyeye, tap “Upload” on the website and select an image from your iOS device. You can choose from “Photo Library,” which brings up your albums, “Take Photo or Video,” or “Browse” to access the Files folder.
Tineye’s search engine allows users to quickly and easily find where an image first appeared online. Simply upload a JPG, GIF or PNG file and the proprietary technology will generate a list of results, including the date of first appearance and size of each image. Clicking on any result takes you to the page where it can be downloaded or viewed.
Yandex, a search engine, offers a reverse image search tool accessible by tapping the “Images” icon below the search bar. To use it, tap the camera icon at the far right of the search bar.
You can upload an image from your Photo Library, take a new photo, or select a previously downloaded file with Tineye.
Yandex offers the most comprehensive image search results, including similar images and descriptions, when compared to Google and Tinyeye. Scrolling down will reveal additional sizes of the image as well as other related search results.
