Fix ‘AirPods roaming behavior among devices’ Issue – Guide

Apple has added an automatic behavior to its devices in order to improve users’ digital lives, but this feature can sometimes have unintended consequences. The automatic Bluetooth roaming of AirPods, which was introduced with iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS 11 Big Sur and tvOS 14 over a year ago, affects 2nd generation normal AirPods and later as well as all AirPods Pro and AirPods Max when used on multiple devices associated with the same Apple ID account.

Using Apple products can be a great way to stay connected, but sharing an Apple ID with someone else can be a confusing hassle. For instance, when responding to a Zoom invitation on Mac, audio controls switch to Bluetooth and music can be played on iPhone. Additionally, phone calls made on iPhone will transfer audio control from Mac or iPad to the device.

On iOS 14 / iPadOS 14 or later:

Tap the Bluetooth switch to turn it on. To enable Bluetooth, go to Settings and toggle the switch.

Tap the info button next to the device name in the list to access more information.

Users can now easily connect their iPhones and iPads to other devices by tapping the “Connect to this iPhone/iPad” option.

Apple users are being urged to manually select the “When was this iPhone/iPad last connected?” option when connecting their devices to a new computer, rather than relying on the automatic connection setting.

On macOS 11 Big Sur or later:

To enable Bluetooth on a Mac, users should navigate to System Preferences > Bluetooth.

To access audio input options, hover your mouse over the device and click the option that appears.

Users are prompted to select when they last connected to their Mac when a pop-up menu appears asking them to “Connect to This Mac.”

Apple TV users should disable its audio capture feature to avoid potential interference.

To connect a Bluetooth device, go to the Settings menu, then select Remotes & Devices and choose Bluetooth.

Apple users can now disable the AirPods suggestion feature, which previously appeared when an iPhone was close to a pair of AirPods.
