Guide: Program a Comcast Remote – Guide
Comcast Cable Sets come with a remote control that is pre-programmed to work with RCA TVs, decoders and video recorders. However, the latest Xfinity remotes can be reprogrammed to control non-RCA devices, eliminating the need for manual code searches.
For older Comcast cable subscribers
To upgrade to the latest version of Comcast, press and hold the Setup button on your decoder remote control until the LED indicator light flashes twice. Then press 9, 9, 1 and if the light flashes twice more, you are ready to go. Make sure to turn on your television separately before beginning.
Press the channel Up button on the remote repeatedly until the TV turns off. Then, press Setup to lock in the code.
Try the Comcast remote to see if it works with the TV: turn it on and adjust the volume.
For Xfinity X1 Remote Controls and Cables
Press the Xfinity/Menu button on your latest remote control (XR2, XR5, or XR11) and select the Settings icon. Scroll to Help for an integrated feature that automatically identifies the appropriate code when using the X1 platform.
To set up your Xfinity remote, select Remote Setup from the Troubleshooting menu. Confirm that you’d like to control your TV with the new remote, then type in the brand of your television and select it when it appears. Finally, enter the 5-digit code or setup code to complete the process.
Xfinity customers can use trial and error to get their remote working, selecting All Set when the code works. If it doesn’t, Xfinity will suggest other codes to try.
