How to Fix ‘Messenger Not Working’ Issue on iPhone – Guide
Facebook remains one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, with its app, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger all connected. Messenger began as an integrated feature of the Facebook app but has since become a standalone application with added features. Despite this, it still faces issues.
Millions of Facebook Messenger users are experiencing an unexpected disruption: the app is not loading on their iPhones. With over a billion people relying on the messaging service each month, this technical issue is causing widespread frustration.
Fix Messenger not working on iPhone
Restart your iPhone
Restarting your iPhone can help fix Messenger issues. Turning off and then on again may resolve minor software glitches that could be causing the app to not work properly.
To turn off your iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (the power button) or side button and any volume button until “slide to power off” appears on the screen. Swipe the red power icon from left to right to shut down your device.
Press and hold the power or side button to restart your iPhone, and the Apple logo will appear.
Close the Messenger application
Restarting Messenger can help resolve software issues and crashes, just like restarting an iPhone.
To quickly close Messenger on iPhones with a Home button, double-tap the Home button to open the app switcher, then swipe up on Messenger to remove it from view.
To close apps on an iPhone without a Home button, simply slide up from the bottom of the screen and hold your finger in the center until the app switcher appears. Then, swipe any app up to close it.
Check for a Messenger app update
If you’re having trouble with Messenger on your iPhone, it could be due to an outdated version of the app. Developers regularly release updates to fix any software issues.
Tap the account icon in the upper right corner of the App Store to access the Updates section. Here, you can update apps one-by-one or all at once by tapping Update or Update all.
Delete and reinstall Messenger
When Messenger malfunctions, deleting and reinstalling it can be the best solution. Doing so won’t delete your account, but you may need to re-enter your login information.
To delete Messenger, press and hold the app icon until a menu appears. Tap Remove -> Delete app -> Delete to uninstall it. To reinstall, open the App Store, tap Search in the lower-right corner and enter “Messenger”. Tap the cloud icon with an arrow pointing down to download it again.
Make sure Messenger is turned off
Messenger and other apps may experience temporary outages due to routine server maintenance, preventing users from accessing the app for a brief period.
If many users are experiencing issues with Messenger, it’s likely the server is down. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to do but wait for it to come back up. Rest assured, Messenger won’t be out of service for long!
Reset all settings
To troubleshoot Messenger not working on iPhone, resetting all settings is the last step. This will erase all data saved in the Settings app, and can be used as a catch-all fix if tracking down a specific software issue proves difficult.
To reset your iPhone’s settings, open the Settings app and follow the prompts. Enter your password when prompted and tap “Reset all settings” to confirm. Your device will then restart with all settings reset.
