Samsung has unveiled the ISOCELL HP1, a 200 megapixel image sensor for smartphone cameras. With 0.64 µm pixels, it is the highest resolution phone camera sensor ever made and can store 16 of them at once, resulting in a 12.5 megapixel image with 2.56 µm pixels.

Samsung has unveiled its new HP1 camera technology, “ChameleonCell”, which allows users to capture photos with a resolution of up to 200 megapixels. The 12.5 megapixel four-by-four setting is designed for low light conditions, but can also be used in two-by-two binning mode for 50 megapixel images.

Samsung’s HP1 camera can record 8K video without cropping, despite the resolution being less than 50 megapixels.

Samsung has unveiled the ISOCELL GN5, a 50 megapixel sensor with 1.0μm pixels, the first of its kind to feature Dual Pixel Pro technology. This makes it comparable to the 1.4μm GN2 pixel, which was previously the largest phone camera sensor available when it debuted on Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra earlier this year.

Samsung has yet to announce when its new sensor will be available for mass production, but samples are already being offered to phone makers.
