Guide: How to Enable/Disable Scrolling By Default in Adobe

Switching to page mode in Adobe Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC can be disorienting, as continuous scrolling is disabled. This means users must repeatedly open the menu bar to return to normal scrolling, wasting valuable time.

Adobe Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC make it easy to enable scrolling for your preferred page mode. Plus, you can add shortcuts to the Acrobat toolbar for quick access. Here’s how.

Enable scrolling in Adobe Acrobat by default

Adobe Acrobat Pro/Standard DC and Reader DC now allow users to resize pages by width with continuous scrolling enabled. However, if an alternate page mode is selected, such as Fit One Full Page, Single Page View or Two Page View, scrolling will be disabled.

The Fit One Full Page mode in the Page View Modes menu does not allow users to switch modes while scrolling, unlike other modes.

To save time, you can override the default page display settings in Acrobat’s preferences pane. Here’s how.

To customize Adobe Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader DC, open the Edit menu and select Preferences.

Navigate to the Accessibility side tab to continue.

Check the box next to ‘Always use page layout style’ in the Override page display section and select either one continuous page or two continuous pages from the drop-down menu to determine your desired page mode.

Users of the PDF viewer can choose between Single Page Continuous and Two Continuous Pages display modes, both of which enable continuous scrolling.

Check the box next to “Always use zoom setting” in the same section and select your desired zoom setting.

Users can choose to keep the default setting for single or two page zoom, or they can opt to change it.

Try Fit to Page or Reflow Text to find the best page size setting for your document. Experiment with both options to get the desired result.

Confirm your changes by clicking OK.

Adobe Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC will now open PDF documents in your preferred page view mode with scrolling enabled by default.

Add scrolling shortcuts to Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC have a page mode that scrolls by default, but users may need to switch to this mode when viewing certain PDF documents. To do so, they must turn off continuous scrolling.

By adding shortcuts to the Acrobat user interface, users can now quickly switch between Fit One Full Page, Single Page View, and Two Page View page modes.

Right-click an empty area on the Acrobat toolbar to open a context menu. Select Page Display Tools and then choose Enable Scrolling and Two Page Scrolling to enable scrolling and two-page viewing.

Two special icons allow users to switch between single page view and two page view mode with scrolling enabled. Additionally, the Single Page View shortcut can be used to activate continuous scrolling after using the Customize one full page option.

To update Adobe Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader DC, open the Help menu and select “Check for updates.”

Enable scrolling in Adobe Acrobat (Mobile

Adobe Acrobat Reader and Premium for Android and iOS now come with continuous scrolling enabled by default.

Tap the Page View icon at the top of the app while viewing a PDF document to switch from Single Page view to Continuous Scrolling.

Keep scrolling
