How to Know the Wi-fi Password in Mac OS X – Guide

As an Internet entrepreneur and blogger, I’m able to work from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection. This freedom has allowed me to jump from one cafe to the next, taking advantage of free Wi-Fi. My Mac stores a list of wireless networks I’ve connected to before, making it easy for me to get online wherever I go.

Forgetting Wi-Fi passwords is a common problem, but with the right steps, you can easily view them. Whether you need to share them or just want to double-check, there’s no need to worry about memorizing them.

Mac users can find the saved Wi-Fi passwords for their networks by accessing the Keychain Access app. This app stores all of the passwords that have been saved on a Mac, including those for Wi-Fi networks.

To reveal a Wi-Fi password on a Mac, follow these steps.

The Wi-Fi icon can be clicked to note the network name you’re connected to.

Press Command + space bar to open Spotlight, then type “Locksmith” to access Keychain, a built-in Mac utility that stores passwords for the entire system.

To access a network, open Key Access and search for it using the search bar. In this example, the network was found at the top of the list.

Right-click on the list and select Get Info to quickly reveal a password without having to copy and paste it into TextEdit.

Check the box to reveal the password.

Keychain requires an administrator password to reveal the password for a network. Enter the password, click Allow and the password will be displayed.

Discovering the passwords for Wi-Fi networks used on a Mac is simple. Even experienced OS X users will find it straightforward, while those new to the platform or who have not used Keychain before may find it especially helpful.
