Photos vs iPhoto and Photo Stream vs iCloud Photo Library: Comparison and Review – Guide
Apple’s Photos app was launched to simplify photo management for Mac users, replacing the outdated iPhoto. Despite its promise of a streamlined experience, some aspects of the new app remain unclear.
Apple has released a new Photos app, offering users an easy way to organize and store their photos.
Photos, the latest photo storage option, is an upgrade from its predecessor. It offers users the choice of storing their photos in a new way that differs from existing options.
Photos vs iPhoto
Speed
Photos is noticeably faster than iPhoto, particularly on a Macbook Air. Browsing content in the Photos app is quick and effortless.
Organization
Photos on Yosemite, Apple’s latest photo-editing software, offers a more organized experience for users. It adopts the look and feel of iOS, making it familiar to many Apple users. The software divides content into four sections: photos and videos, photo flow, projects and shared albums – providing an improved organizing system compared to its predecessor iPhoto.
Navigation
Fotos has seen a significant benefit from adopting iOS standards.
Viewing photos is now easier than ever with the new grouping and favoriting features on iOS devices. You can quickly zoom out to see photos grouped by date and location, and mark your favorites with a single click - an upgrade from iPhoto’s rating system.
At the top of each group, users can access context buttons, including “Edit,” “Delete,” and “Archive.”
Press the button to launch a slideshow of chosen photos.
The “+” button allows users to quickly and easily send their current selection to an album, book project, calendar and more.
Tap the share button to send your photos via Mail, Messages, iCloud Photo Sharing and social media.
Stream photos vs iCloud photo library
Confused by the new Photos app on Yosemite? Let’s break down the two terms you need to know.
Stream of photos
The new Photos app for Mac mirrors the photo flow of iOS devices and iCloud, just as iPhoto did.
No matter which device you use to take photos, they’ll all be stored in the same place: your Mac’s My Photo Stream. To access them, simply go to Albums > My Photo Stream in Photos. All new photos will also appear in the main Photos section.
Remember to connect to a wireless network for Photo Stream updates.
ICloud photo library
Since its launch, iCloud Photo Library has made it easy for users to store all their photos in the cloud. With this feature, users can access their photos from any device connected to their iCloud account.
You can free up space on your devices’ hard drives by deleting the original photos after they have been uploaded.
Using iCloud’s photo library feature is a great way to store and access photos, but users with large libraries may need to upgrade their storage plan. While the plans are affordable, they require a monthly payment.
It’s time to say goodbye to iPhoto: Apple’s new Photos app is here, packed with features that make it easier to use than ever before. But don’t forget to back up your photos before you switch over – or upgrade to the iCloud Photo Library.
