Guide: How to Change Download Location of Netflix on Windows 10 PC

You can now download Netflix movies and TV shows to watch offline. To change the default download location on Windows 10, follow these steps. By default, Netflix stores all downloads on the main drive (C 🙂 of your computer, but you can easily change this.

If your computer’s storage is running low or you don’t want to fill up the main drive with Netflix downloads, you can move them to an external drive.

How to Change the Netflix download location on Windows 10 PC

Open the Settings app on your Windows 10 PC and search for Netflix in the Apps & Features list.

Tap the Move button and select a location to move Netflix, such as a removable USB drive.

To move your Netflix downloads to a new location, you’ll need to ensure the destination has enough space. Then, click ‘Move’ and wait for the process to complete - this may take some time. In the meantime, you can still access Netflix via Chrome or Edge Chromium browsers.

Once the process is done, all Netflix-related folders have been moved to the new location. However, some folders, like WindowsApps, remain inaccessible.

Users cannot choose a specific subfolder when transferring files to a new drive; the folders are automatically created in the root.

If you’ve chosen an external hard drive or USB drive as the new location for Netflix downloads, you must have the device with you to stream movies or TV shows - otherwise, Netflix will display an error.

Smart downloads

Netflix has a feature that makes downloading episodes of shows easier: Smart Downloads. This tool automatically downloads the next episode of a show when one is finished.

If you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory, the Smart Downloads feature on the app will make your life easier: after watching episode 2, it’ll automatically download episode 3.

The deal just got better: watched episodes are automatically removed, making it easier to keep up with your favorite shows.

Tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner to enable Smart Downloads on your device.

Enable the “smart downloads” feature to appear at the top of your download page.

Delete all downloads

Clearing old downloads from your PC is easy: just click the Delete icon in Netflix settings. To access, click the three dots button in the upper right corner.

Manage download devices

Netflix users may be familiar with the “Download expired” message when attempting to access old downloads, but the most frustrating error is “Too Many Devices.”

Users who have downloaded titles on multiple devices or profiles may find themselves unable to access them, as titles can only be downloaded if they have been removed from the other device or profile.

Don’t fret - a speedy solution is available.

Go to your account settings in the top left corner and select “Manage download devices” under Settings. This will show you all downloads, organized by device name.

To check the title of a series or movie, click on Show downloads. Once you have verified the title, click Remove device to finish.

If you’re unable to delete individual titles from your Netflix downloads, restarting the app should help you resume them on your Windows laptop or PC.
