How to bring back old toggles on Android 12 Internet button – Guide
Google has combined the Wi-Fi and Mobile Data switches in the Quick Settings panel of Android 12 into a single ‘Internet’ switch, disappointing advanced users. However, there is a way to reset a dedicated Wi-Fi key in the panel if desired.
Google’s Android 12 beta has combined Wi-Fi and mobile data settings into one toggle, labeled “Internet,” causing confusion for users.
Method 1: Use ADB to re-enable Wi-Fi on Android 12 (easiest method)
Using ADB, you can quickly access your Wi-Fi and mobile data settings with one command. To do so, follow our guide on how to install ADB on Windows, macOS, Linux or Chrome OS.
To access the command prompt in the root of your ADB installation, type “cmd” in the File Explorer address bar. Alternatively, if you’ve set ADB in your system’s PATH variable, you can open a command prompt window without this step.
To connect your phone to your PC, enable USB debugging in the Developer Options of your phone’s Settings. Once enabled, run the adb devices command to confirm a successful connection.
Enter this command into the command prompt and press Enter:
The Android Debug Bridge (ADB) shell has been configured to secure the sysui_qs_tiles setting, which affects Wi-Fi and mobile connections.
Users can now access dedicated Wi-Fi and mobile data quickly by pressing the pencil icon at the bottom of the Quick Settings panel.
Swipe Wi-Fi and mobile dice to switch them on, and move the “Internet” toggle button to the inactive blocks area for a streamlined experience.
Android 12 phones now feature dedicated switches for Wi-Fi and mobile data, allowing users to easily toggle between the two.
Method 2: Use the Tasker project to switch Wi-Fi back on Android 12
Before beginning, make sure you have all the necessary apps and files downloaded.
Tasker and other download requirements
Tasker is an automation app for Android phones that has been around for over 10 years. It allows users to set rules and automate tasks on their device. The original developer resigned in 2018, but the project was taken over by João Dias who actively maintains it. Users can purchase Tasker from the Play Store or try it out with a 7-day free trial before committing to a purchase.
Download AutoNotification from the Play Store to replace your internet switch with a new Wi-Fi switch. Tasker is also available for download, but AutoNotification is free.
Installing the Tasker Settings app from GitHub is essential for enabling Tasker to change Wi-Fi status on Android 10 and above. Without it, the option won’t work. The app targets API level 21 (Android 5.0 Lollipop) as a solution for this issue, which Google has prevented apps from doing since Android 10.
