Guide: How to Add YouTube Videos in MS PowerPoint

Many of us have encountered the challenge of striking a balance between too many and too few infographics in our slides. Too many charts and graphs can quickly turn an exciting presentation into an overwhelming one.

In the face of adversity, how do you respond?

Want to make your PowerPoint presentation stand out and grab everyone’s attention? Incorporate videos! Embedding videos in slides can help you create a dynamic, engaging presentation.

Would you rather read a long article or watch a three-minute video? The answer is clear: the video, which can quickly capture viewers’ attention.

Adding YouTube videos to your PowerPoint slides is easy and can help make your presentation more engaging. Not only do they add charm, but they also make it easier for viewers to follow along without having to squint at the text.

This article will explore how to accomplish a task.

1. Add the video via the Insert option

To quickly add YouTube videos to a presentation, simply open the desired slide and select Insert > Video > Online Video.

You can quickly find the video you need for your PowerPoint presentation without leaving the program, simply by typing in relevant keywords like channel name or video title.

Clicking the search icon brings up a plethora of videos that match the desired criteria.

Inserting a video into a project takes just minutes and offers users the ability to customize playback settings, shape, effects and more.

Verify your selection by playing the video.

Right-clicking the video box and selecting Preview> Play will allow you to view the video.

PowerPoint launches Internet Explorer in the background when playing videos, requiring users to have the browser installed.

Cons?

This method won’t let you use playback settings like auto play or start time, but there’s a solution.

2. Embed a video

Embedding a YouTube video is similar to the above method, but instead of adding an image URL, you add the video URL directly.

Head to YouTube and customize your video: click Share > Embed, add a start time, and decide if you want to show suggested videos.

Copy the code to Notepad and add the autoplay = 1 variable to the end of the URL – this will start the video automatically when the slide loads.

To add an online video to your PowerPoint presentation, go to Insert > Video > Online Video and paste the URL in the designated field.

Confirm that the video starts playing from the desired point: simply check it once.

Customizing videos is the key to satisfaction, and this is my preferred method for doing so.

Having an active internet connection is essential for inserting or embedding YouTube videos into PowerPoint. But once you have that sorted, there are plenty of ways to customize your presentations with cool tricks.

Make your slides unique

1. Resize the slides

If you’re looking for something more than the typical rectangular slides, you can now customize their size.

Tap the Design tab and select Slide size. Choose Custom slide size and opt for Portrait orientation to create vertical slides.

You can select a style from the drop-down list and adjust the width to your preference.

With just a few clicks, users can now easily navigate between multiple slides in the same presentation using shapes.

Adding a shape to your slide is simple. To make it an arrow, adjust the size and color as desired, then right-click and select “Insert Hyperlink > Place in This Document.”

To make your presentation run smoothly, select the desired slide for each shape and click OK. This will ensure that when you click on an object, it will automatically jump to the corresponding slide, eliminating the need to switch slides quickly and potentially confuse your audience.

3. Add GIFs to slides

Adding a GIF to your presentation can give it a casual, fun touch. You can either use one you’ve already downloaded or search for one directly in PowerPoint.

Adding a GIF to your document is easy: just click Insert> Pictures and select from the pre-downloaded options, or search online using Bing Picture Search. Simply enter “GIF” in the search box to find the perfect image.

This method of creating GIFs has a downside: viewers can’t preview the animation before it plays in presentation mode.

To get. Set. To go!

Adding videos to PowerPoint presentations can be a great way to save time and effort, but it’s important to keep them short. Too long of a video can be detrimental, so make sure you keep it concise.
