How to Add a “Check for Updates” Option Windows 10/11 Context Menu – Guide

Windows updates are an essential part of keeping your PC running smoothly. Streamed as a service, Windows 11 and 10 users can expect to receive regular updates, including Windows Defender every two days and cumulative updates every Tuesday. For tech-savvy users, these updates provide the latest features and security patches to keep their systems up-to-date.

After making the necessary changes, a “Check for updates” option will appear in the desktop context menu. If it doesn’t show up, restart your system. Selecting this option will open Settings and initiate an update check.

Adding an icon to the desktop context menu is optional, but can make it look nicer. To do so, right-click on the “Check for Updates” key in the right panel and select “New -> String Value”.

A new String value called “Icon” has been created. To save the changes, double click the value and enter the path in the Value data field before clicking “OK”.
