How to save text messages on iOS
If you’re running a Mac or PC with OS Mojave or earlier, iTunes is the best way to back up your iPhone and capture all your text messages. Download the latest version here. If you’re on a Mac running OS Catalina, skip to the “Using iExplorer only” section. iCloud backups are an option, but it’s easier to access data in the future using iTunes.
Step 1A (PC or Mac OS Mojave and earlier):

You can now export conversations as PDF, TXT or CSV files, and even just images or attachments.
