Guide: Using Filters in Microsoft Teams

Can you use filters on Microsoft Teams video calls? A recent tweet has sparked curiosity about the feature, with many wondering if it’s possible to look like a potato during their next virtual meeting. Zoom supports filters, but what about Microsoft Teams? Here’s how to find out.

Adding a bit of fun to video calls is possible with funky filters. From 3D cats on your head to looking like a potato, these filters can liven up any conversation. However, when using professional apps like Microsoft Teams or Zoom, it’s important to be mindful of the environment and only use filters if everyone in the team is comfortable with it.

Microsoft Teams users on PC and Mac can customize their video calls by adding or removing filters.

Microsoft Teams comes with filters for video

Microsoft Teams does not have native filter support, but users can still take advantage of virtual backgrounds like those available on Zoom. For more information on how to use background effects in Microsoft Teams, check out the end of this post.

To use Snapchat filters in Microsoft Teams video conferences, you need to change the default camera to Snap Camera. Then, you can apply any of Snap’s filters such as potato or banana.

How to Add Snapchat filters to Microsoft Teams

Three steps make up the process: an overview.

1. Download Snap Camera

Installing Snap Camera is a must for users of Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit) or newer and macOS 10.11 El Capitan or newer who want to take advantage of the filters available in apps like Microsoft Teams.

Don’t forget to scroll down and check the box next to Privacy Policy when downloading Snap Camera from its page. Once you’ve done that, you can click either the Mac or PC download button.

2. Run Snap Camera on the background

Open the Microsoft Teams app while keeping Snap Camera running in the background: select a filter to use in Teams from within the app.

Always keep Snap Camera running in the background to ensure your camera resources are being used.

To change the camera used for Snap Camera, click the settings icon at the top of the program if your computer has two cameras.

3. Change default Camera in Microsoft Teams

It’s time to switch up your camera on Microsoft Teams. You can save Snap Camera as the default for all video calls, or change it during an ongoing call. Here’s how.

If you’re getting an error in Snap Camera saying ‘No camera available’, close both Snap Camera and Microsoft Teams, then open Snap Camera first and adjust the default camera settings in Microsoft Teams.

Method 1: Add filter to ongoing call

Click the three-dot icon at the bottom of the dialing screen during a call to access device settings.

The Device Settings screen opens, allowing users to select Snap Camera from the drop-down list.

Snap Camera can be run in the background, allowing users to see their chosen filter appear in Microsoft Teams.

Method 2: Add filter for all calls

Microsoft Teams now allows users to add fun face filters to all their calls, but they must first set Snap Camera as their default camera app in the app’s settings.

  1. Identify the main point of the original sentence.
  2. Rewrite it in a concise and clear manner, using language that is appropriate for a journalist’s writing style. The original sentence: “It is important to take the necessary steps to ensure that your business is successful.” Revised: Taking proactive measures is essential for achieving success in business.

Step 2: Access the Settings menu in Microsoft Teams by clicking the profile picture icon at the top of the app.

Go to Devices in the left pane, then select Snap Camera from the Camera drop-down list.

Bonus Tip: Use background effects in Microsoft Teams

Open the Teams app and select the three dots in the top right corner. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu, then click on “Virtual Background.” Choose an image or video to use as your background, or upload one of your own. Finally, click on “Apply” to set your new virtual background.

Click the three-dot icon at the bottom of a Microsoft Teams call to access background effects.

Users can select a background for their video and preview it before disabling it for others.

The background of a preview will only be visible to the viewer.

Click ‘Apply’ to turn on the video with your desired background.

To get rid of any background effects, click the three-dot icon, select ‘Show Background Effects’, then click the ’none’ icon and hit ‘Apply’.
